Canceling a membership

CombatScore is click-to-cancel. Three taps and you're done. No "are you sure" loops, no "talk to a retention specialist" detours, no surprise pages.

The flow

1. Settings → Memberships → [Gym name].
2. Scroll to Membership status → tap Cancel membership.
3. Confirm. Done.

You'll get an email receipt of the cancellation. The gym is notified.

What happens to your pre-paid time

You keep it. If you cancel on the 15th and you're paid through the end of the month, you can train through the end of the month. The cancellation prevents the NEXT charge — it doesn't claw back the current period.

If you want to also refund the current period, that's a separate action — see Refunding a payment.

What gets canceled

• Recurring auto-charge stops.
• Active bookings beyond the paid period are canceled.
• Your gym membership status flips to "former member" at the end of the paid period.
• You still keep your training history at that gym (just no future class access).

What doesn't change

• Your CombatScore account stays.
• Your profile stays.
• Memberships at OTHER gyms stay.
• Training history at this gym stays (visible to you forever).

Rejoining later

If you want back in, the gym treats it as a new membership. They may require a fresh waiver (depends on age of the original signature) but otherwise it's the same join flow as a new member.

What if the cancel button is missing?

Three possible causes:

1. You're not on a recurring membership — drop-in passes don't have a recurring charge, so there's nothing to cancel.
2. The gym is paused for billing — Stripe Connect issue. Contact the gym.
3. You're a managed kid — your guardian needs to cancel from their account.

If none of those apply, email support@combatscore.app with the gym name and we'll force the cancel through.

Compliance note

This flow exists in this shape on purpose. State automatic-renewal laws — California's Automatic Renewal Law (Bus. & Prof. Code § 17600 et seq.) chief among them — require that canceling a subscription you started online be possible online, immediately, without a phone call, a retention offer, or any step designed to slow you down. CombatScore designs to that bar across every gym on the platform. Gym owners cannot disable it.

(An FTC "click-to-cancel" rule was set to impose a similar federal standard, but it was vacated by the Eighth Circuit in July 2025 and is not in force. The state laws above are, and they are the bar we build to.)
